Those SIS Ranch Girls

A blog inspired by the lives of a family of deer residing on a Texas deer ranch.

Name:
Location: Texas

A city girl living from Las Vegas to Dallas to Chicago, now lives in the country with my husband and daughter - when she's not away at college. I have always "heard" what the animals have to say, now I have a way to creatively feature their thoughts!

Another Plus from an Afternoon Rain

A good bath...and a beautiful sky.

Bell, Chili, Star, Holly, Cassia & Rosebud
(Residents of The Ritz - aka: Ritzy Girls)

Rain? That means...

While those Humans head for cover, it is a great time for a group bath. I lick Bell's back, she licks mine. I don't get why the Humans don't take advantage of the shower. But, the boys at La Quinta didn't take the opportunity to get clean either. No, they ran around chasing each other and jumping in puddles. Boys! What dirty things. Now, they'll be dirty and muddy and we'll be nice and clean. I wasn't real thrilled about the lightening and thunder, but hey, we got a really nice bath out of it.

Another bad thing out of this...no snacks. The Humans refuse to come out and deliver. What babies.

Falstaff Father 2

Falstaff is the daddy for a second time to another baby boy. Forget the smiles, it's too early!

Velvet Be Gone!

I've had enough of this stupid velvet stuff. It is time to go away. It itches; it twitches...it is like a hair that won't sit in place...a hangnail...a NUISANCE.

So, I've taken to scratching, and scratching, and rubbing and shaking. Notice my beautiful, sharp antlers taking shape? I'll keep whittlin' away and pretty soon you could spear a fish with 'em...or YOU if you don't watch out!! HA, HA, scared 'ya.

From my point of view I notice the girls all commenting that I'm beginning to look rather handsome. These girls go for the sharply attired buck. No wooly beast for them.

Home From Camp

Well, we are back at SIS Ranch. We got to spend a little time today with our brother, Spirit and our friends Curly and #15. Spirit tried to come home with us but he goes to the doctor tomorrow and will be home later this week.

We had lots of fun and are exploring our new digs at the La Quinta. We can see our friends across the way at the Ritz and next to us is our moms - Licorice and Anise. They are surprised at how big we are. They said we smell like camp! Hey, camp smelled good. But, it is raining slightly so by tomorrow we'll smell like home!

Off to explore...oh, and are we getting any more bottles? We like bottles of warm milk and hope that didn't get left out of our bags. Oh well, time to talk to Rosebud through the fence.

Deer Dinners

Deer dinners aren't any different than Human dinners. She talks, he checks the scenery!

See My Boy???

Did you see him, huh, well, did you? He's fabulous if I say so myself. He looks just like me. Strong too. He's walking around like he owns the place. That's my boy!

Puck may have more children this year than yours truly, however, I did bring the boys even with the girls. We now have 10 each. That's a nice round number, but between you and me, I think Cilantro or Indigo could still add to my brood.

Well, I'm off to get congratulated.

Nutmeg & Son

It is finally time for me to announce the newest edition to SIS Ranch...my son Red #1. My Humans thought I was pregnant, then they didn't, then they did...well, does THIS answer it for you folks?

It may have been Labor Day yesterday, but I feel like I've been in labor for weeks! Whew, this is not easy. Glad it is over with. I feel better already.

But, I must say, doesn't he look precious? And, yes, Falstaff gets to be the king today. This is his first baby.

Well, busy cleaning him off, especially after the Humans came in and tagged his little ear, and then he tried to run after them. I have to teach him to play it cool. Make the Humans bring snacks.

Yo, Look At Me!

Thought you'd all had enough of cute baby pictures and would like to see a buff dude. For a yearling, I'm looking pretty good. This would be my beefcake shot for those less in the know!

Notes from Camp

Well, we are having a wonderful time. This is a picture of me, Thief. Aren't I cool?

Below is a picture of all of us in our group, frolicking with Susie, our camp director. These are our friends. Star and I come home soon. Spirit has to stay longer as he got sick and they had to have an operation and he still needs special care. Curly and the other guys are just babies and they are not done learning all about deer things.

So, hi to everyone and we're getting excited as we get ready to climb back in the car for the drive back to SIS Ranch.

Thief & Star...friends....and Susie

I'm a Winner!!

My Human goes to the Texas Deer Association meeting and I win a prize! Well, she took this picture of me and it won Most Unusual in their photo contest. I'm sure they are referring Most Unusual to a deer eating a rose, not the deer itself! She gets a plaque, I think I get more roses.

I tell these folks around here I'm the most photogenic and a very special deer; no one believes me. Well, do you think all those great judges at the photo contest would lie?
